TM Joint ankylosis - Temporomandibular joint is joint between lower jaw bone and skull bone (on both sides). Movement to open mouth is at this joint. In cases there is trauma in bony surfaces participating in this joint, it leads to fusion of both bony surfaces thus resulting in loss of movement and hence no mouth opening. Most common cause of this problem is unnoticed trauma in childhood. Fall on chin leads to intra-articular injury and this gradually results in fusion of both joint surfaces on affected side. Most of the times problem is unilateral but it may be on both sides also. In unilateral problems there is growth arrest on affecred side and hence chin deviates gradually to that side. Treatment is surgery.
  • Surgery for recurrent TM Joint dislocation
  • Management of all facial bone fractures
